Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for Château d’Yquem 1988
Tasting
Colour
Golden colour, adorned with subtle amber reflections.
Nose
Notes of candied fruit (dried apricot, dried fig, raisins, quince), spices (saffron, nutmeg) and floral (lime, honeysuckle...) give this nose a rare intensity.
Palate
Harmoniously recalling the nose, the palate combines complexity, finesse and creaminess.
The elegance and richness of an iconic Sauternes wine
The property
Located south of Bordeaux, the Château d'Yquem is one of the most beautiful references among the great Sauternes wines. This legendary Premier Cru Classé Supérieur enjoys an exceptional terroir and produces globally sought-after sweet wines.
The vineyard
The Château d’Yquem is an extraordinary place, nestled in the heart of the hills of the Sauternes appellation, rich in a hundred hectares of vineyards planted on a mosaic of gravelly-sandy terroirs.
The vintage
The winter is mild and wet, as is the spring. Subsequently, it is the drought that marks the end of the vegetative cycle from mid-June. Despite these conditions, physiological maturity is reached on September 25. The harvest is carried out in 6 passes between September 29 and November 16.
Blend
Sémillon
Sauvignon blanc.
