The property
Mariano Garcia and Javier Zaccagnini founded Aalto Bodegas y Viñedos in 1999 with the ambition to produce complex, balanced and uniquely personal Spanish wines. Over the vintages, Aalto Bodegas y Viñedos has become a benchmark among the essential producers of Ribera del Duero. With their richness and refinement, these wines are quickly recognised beyond borders, as evidenced by the ranking of the property among the 100 best wine estates in the world by the great French critics Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve.
The vineyard
With an area of 130 hectares, the Spanish vineyard of Aalto Bodegas y Viñedos owes its uniqueness to its mosaic of more than 200 plots located in 9 different municipalities. With their different altitudes and their own micro-climates, each plot requires individual monitoring to carry out the harvest at the optimal maturity date of the grapes. Rigorous attention is paid to this vineyard, which is managed without any herbicides or pesticides and whose vines are aged from 40 to 100 years.
The wine
Aalto PS 2022 from Aalto Bodegas Vinedos is a Ribera del Duero wine made from a rigorous selection, within the vineyards of La Horra and La Aguilera, of very old vines aged from 60 to 90 years.
The vintage
The beginning of the year is marked by a mild and dry autumn, then offset by late frosts. If the rains in March alleviate the water deficit, the low temperatures delay the bud burst before heat peaks spread from May to July.
Vinification and ageing
Harvested manually, the grapes undergo a rigorous selection, bunch by bunch, in order to retain only those of the best quality. The ageing lasts for 20 months in French oak barrels (100% new).
Blend
100% tempranillo (tinto fino).
