Description
A Fresh and Elegant Premier Cru from Nuits-Saint-Georges
The estate
While the history of the Bichot family dates back to 1214, it was in 1350 that they settled in Burgundy. The trading house, created in Monthélie in 1831 under the impetus of Bernard Bichot, experienced a rapid rise during the 19th century, becoming notably the official supplier to the Court of Sweden.
As an independent and family-owned house, Albert Bichot is one of those great names that mark the viticultural landscape and the influence of Burgundy wines. Today, the 6th generation has been running the company since 1996, harmoniously blending modernity with family tradition.
The Albert Bichot house is now at the head of more than 100 hectares of vineyards, spread from north to south of Burgundy, and grouped into 6 prestigious estates: the Domaine Long-Depaquit, located in Chablis, in the Yonne, the Domaine du Clos-Frantin and Château Gris, both located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, the Domaine du Pavillon, in Pommard. Dedicated to the wines of Mercurey, it was in 2013 that the Domaine Adélie was bought by Albert Bichot. The estate is named in tribute to the name of Albert Bichot's daughter, born in 2003, thus perpetuating the family heritage from generation to generation. The beautiful vineyard of the Domaine de Rochegrès in the Moulin À Vent appellation joined the family business in 2014.
The vineyard
Built in the 18th century, the Château-Gris is located in the middle of a 3.5-hectare vineyard. While tile predominates in Burgundy, the roof was covered with gray slates after the destruction of the vines by Phylloxera. The name Château-Gris was then given by the local population.
This 1er Cru Monopole Château Gris 2020 from Albert Bichot is a Nuits-Saint-Georges wine from a 2.80-hectare plot initially planted on the place called Les Crots which, by a court decision in the 1920s, was renamed "Château-Gris".
Averaging 35 years old, the vineyard at the foot of the castle is planted in terraces at an altitude of 280 meters, on clay-limestone soils.
Vinification and aging
Harvested by hand, the grapes are vinified in thermo-regulated oak conical vats. Maceration for an average of 3 weeks.
The aging is carried out in oak barrels (including 25% new barrels) for 12 to 15 months.
Blend
Pinot noir (100%).
