Description
An exceptional box set bringing together three great Bordeaux vintages
The property
It was in 1853 that Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild acquired Château Brane-Mouton at auction. The property, located in the heart of Médoc, in Pauillac, was then renamed Château Mouton Rothschild. In 1922, Baron Philippe de Rothschild took over the reins of the property. Visionary, he decided to initiate in 1924 the complete bottling at the château while entrusting the illustration of the wine label to an artist. Each year since 1945, the label of Château Mouton Rothschild is illustrated by the original work of a great contemporary artist. Dalí, César, Miró, Chagall, Warhol, Soulages, Bacon, Balthus, Tàpies, Koons, Doig... an exciting collection that grows each year with a new work and constitutes the famous exhibition "Art and Label". Emblem of the Pauillac appellation, this Premier Cru Classé makes the great wines of Bordeaux shine throughout the world. Today, it is the three children of Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, Camille and Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild who preside over the destiny of Château Mouton Rothschild.
The vineyard
The Château Mouton Rothschild is a Pauillac wine from a vineyard of 82 hectares located northwest of Bordeaux, in the Médoc. The vines, with an average age of 50 years, are planted on pebbly gravel soils that capture heat and release it during the night, thus promoting the maturation of the grapes. These draining soils rest on a clay-gravel subsoil, giving the wines of Château Mouton Rothschild a power, elegance and unique tannic structure.
The box set
Prestigious Premier Grand Cru Classé of Pauillac, Château Mouton Rothschild unveils in limited edition a Luxe case in an oak wood box bringing together a trilogy of exceptional vintages: 2005, 2009 and 2010.
Château Mouton Rothschild 2005
For the 2005 vintage, Mouton Rothschild called upon Italian artist Giuseppe Penone, who illustrates the label with a work symbolizing the fusion between nature and the winemaker's hand. That year, a dry climate and moderate volumes gave birth to an elegant, structured and powerful wine, reminiscent of the great vintages of the property. Dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (85%), this wine offers a dark color, a woody and fruity nose, as well as a full palate with rich tannins and a persistent finish.Château Mouton Rothschild 2009
Anish Kapoor, a British artist of Indian origin, celebrates here the creative force of nature and its interaction with light. This exceptional vintage, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (88%), is distinguished by a dark color, a complex nose combining black fruits, spices and woody notes, as well as a dense and balanced palate. Structured and refined, this wine offers a long and elegant finish, reminiscent of the greatest Pauillac.
Château Mouton Rothschild 2010
For the 2010 vintage, Mouton Rothschild called upon Jeff Koons, a recognized American artist, who revisits Antiquity with a modern interpretation of The Birth of Venus, celebrating the timeless journey of wine. This vintage, marked by a contrasting climate and beautiful grape maturity, gives birth to a wine dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (94%), both powerful and elegant. Its dark color, its complex nose combining vanilla notes and black fruits, as well as its full palate with silky tannins, offer a long and mineral finish of great finesse.
