An elegant and well-structured great wine from Douro

The property

Owned by the Sogrape group, one of the most important Portuguese wine producers, Casa Ferreirinha is synonymous with exception. With over 250 years of history, Casa Ferreirinha is renowned for its exceptional Douro wine: Barca-Velha. Despite changes since the 1950s, its commitment to excellence has continued for nearly seven decades.

The wine

Casa Ferreirinha has crafted a unique Portuguese wine from the lesser-known grape varieties of Douro, with the aim of celebrating its terroir. Usually used in Port wines, these grape varieties are here highlighted in an exceptional way.

The vintage

A cold and dry winter and spring (except in April) precede a homogeneous bud burst. The very clement summer is ideal for ensuring a progressive and qualitative maturity of the berries.

Vinification and ageing

After destemming, the berries are gently pressed and placed in stainless steel tanks to carry out alcoholic fermentation before ageing in French oak barrels for 18 months.
