Château Capbern 2015

A seductive smooth and fine Saint-Estèphe red wine

The estate

Château Capbern is a Saint-Estephe vineyard located in the north-east of the appellation. Château Capbern is owned by Château Calon Ségur.

The vineyard

Château Capbern dedicates 29 hectares of vines to production, out of 33 hectares, which rest on sandy-gravelly, clay-gravelly and limestone soils. The vines are 18 years old on average and are pruned using a double guyot method.

The vintage

Although the mild temperatures and rainfall during the vegetative phase were beneficial for a rapid and even flowering period, these conditions also led to early water stress. At the beginning of August, rainfall salvaged the vineyard, enabling the veraison to start. September was marked by cool, humid weather conditions.

The vinification and ageing

The hand-picked grapes are rigorously sorted both on the vine and in the cellar before being vinified in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. Vatting for 20 days with two pump-overs per day. Malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for 18 months in barrels (60% new oak, 40% first fill).

The blend

Château Capbern 2015 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (68%), Merlot (28%) and Petit Verdot (4%).

This Saint-Estephe wine seduces the palate with its delicious, its elegant and its beautiful tension. Throughout the tasting experience, a perfect balance blends with a delicate tannic structure and a silky feel.
