Description

Château d'Yquem 2015: a Sauternes wine with exceptional acidity and tension

The property
South of Bordeaux, the Château d'Yquem is one of the most beautiful references of the Sauternes appellation. This legendary Premier Cru Classé Supérieur enjoys an exceptional terroir and gives birth to globally sought-after sweet wines.

The vineyard
The Château d’Yquem is an extraordinary place, nestled in the heart of the hills of the Sauternes appellation, rich in a hundred hectares of vineyards planted on a mosaic of gravelly-sandy terroirs. While the estate extends over 113 hectares of vines, the vineyard in production spreads over about 100 hectares, benefiting from warm and dry soils on the surface with large gravels. The clay soils, on the other hand, allow for good water reserves.

The vintage
At Château d’Yquem, the 2015 vintage is marked by a cool winter and a fairly warm spring. This warmth continues during the flowering which takes place optimally. Summer then sets in and the months of June and July are among the ten hottest recorded on the property. Good rains fall in mid-June and allow for significant water reserves to face the summer. In August, some rains between the heat and the good weather give the berries a beautiful and slow maturation until the harvest. The harvest took place from September 3 to October 21, with very good development of Botrytis thanks to small rains.

Vinification and aging
The aging is carried out in barrels for 20 months (with 15 rackings and a slight fining).

Blend
75% Sémillon and 25% Sauvignon Blanc.

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château d’Yquem 2015

Tasting

Nose
Precise, complex and exuberant bouquet, revealing a nice minerality.

Palate
On the palate, the wine is incredibly balanced, pure and with a great botrytized fruit. This Château d'Yquem 2015 reveals exceptional acidity and tension. The levels of acidity and sugar are both close to the property's records, which contributes to making Yquem 2015 an exceptional vintage in the continuity of the mythical 2001 and 2009.
