Description
The intensity and freshness of a Châteauneuf-du-Pape white wine
The estate
A true symbol of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Château La Nerthe is one of the oldest estates in the appellation. Their histories have been intertwined for five centuries, making Château La Nerthe a historic landmark of the region. Nestling in a sumptuous Provencal setting, the magnificent château overlooks an exceptional architectural and winegrowing heritage. With its cellars dating back to the 16th century, its 92-hectare vineyard and its organic farming certification obtained in 1998, the estate embodies the perfect balance between tradition and innovation. Since 1985, the Richard family has been designing the estate's wines and continues to write the history of Château La Nerthe with fervour, raising its heritage through boundless ambition and exacting innovation.
The vineyard
Nestling in the heart of the Rhône Valley, Château La Nerthe oversees the pebble, sand and clay soils typical of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This terroir benefits from a Mediterranean microclimate and generous sunshine, ensuring that the grapes reach full ripeness.
The vintage
This Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine comes from a vintage marked by relatively clement weather conditions, with regular rainfall and temperate temperatures throughout the summer. The absence of water stress meant that the grapes ripened slowly and in a balanced fashion.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand and meticulously sorted on a table before being taken to the press to gently extract the juice. Fermentation of the Roussanne takes place in barrels, while the other grape varieties are vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The wine is then aged on its fine lees. The final blend is made just before bottling.
