Description

The power of a Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Julien, delicious and harmonious

The property

The Château Lagrange is one of the iconic references of the Saint-Julien appellation. The property bears witness to very ancient origins since as early as the Gallo-Roman era, the place housed the "Villa Rustica". It was then the Order of the Templars who initiated the vineyard activity of the property. Château Lagrange experienced a true golden age in the 18th century and achieved the title of 3rd Cru Classé during the Official Classification of 1855. It was in 1983 that Château Lagrange came under the wing of the Japanese group Suntory and its president Keizo Saji. Following a significant renovation and investment programme coupled with the arrival of a dynamic team, Château Lagrange has reached the pinnacle of Médoc wines.

The vineyard

Château Lagrange is a Saint-Julien wine from a single vineyard enjoying a superb location on two gravelly ridges. Oriented north-south, the old vines are planted on silico-gravelly soils with a clay-limestone subsoil. The climate of the vineyard is temperate and oceanic in nature.

The vintage

A vintage marked by strong climatic contrasts, 2018 began under rainy conditions while the summer was one of the hottest and driest ever recorded since 1996. The harvest began on 20 September and ended on 13 October 2018.

Vinification and ageing

Ageing in oak barrels (including 50% new oak) for 21 months.

Blend

Cabernet sauvignon (67%)
Merlot (28%)
Petit verdot (5%).

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Lagrange 2018

Colour
Beautiful dark colour.

Nose
Of great intensity, the aromatic bouquet seduces with its notes of black fruits with hints of cherry, plum, evolving on the freshness of peppery notes.

Palate
The palate reveals a delicious substance, with a smooth texture, dense and perfectly melted tannins. Both powerful and harmonious, the wine retains a great aromatic freshness. A very great vintage accessible in its youth and promising a beautiful evolution in the cellar.
