The estate

In the heart of the Margaux appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux, stands the Château Marquis de Terme. The origins of the vineyard date back to the 15th century, but the estate took its current name in the 18th century when the Marquis de Terme took over the reins. Since 1935, the Sénéclauze family has owned this Grand Cru of Margaux.

The vineyard

The 39.5 hectares of the Château Marquis de Terme vineyard are planted on deep gravel typical of the Margaux appellation, made up of thick quartz and quartzites. Some plots are more clayey. The vineyard, which is 35 years old on average, is managed on a parcel-by-parcel basis and has been certified High Environmental Value 3 since 2017 and ISO 14001 since 2016.

The vintage

The 2019 vintage is a year of contrasting weather. Starting with cold temperatures, the winter gradually becomes more mild, promoting early bud break. The cooler spring slows down the vine cycle. The hot and dry summer slows down the ripening process, which is restarted by a rainy and sunny September. The grapes were thus able to reach perfect maturity thanks to a longer ripening cycle.

Vinification and aging

Manual harvest in crates. Manual and densimetric sorting to keep only the best quality berries. Gravity transfer to concrete, wood and stainless steel tanks. Cold pre-fermentation maceration accompanied by punch downs and a fractionation of extractions to reveal the full personality of this vintage.

Blend

Cabernet sauvignon (60%), merlot (33%) and petit verdot (7%).

Tasting

Color
The color is of an intense ruby hue.

Nose
Of great elegance, the nose combines floral (violet) and menthol fragrances with notes of licorice and spices.

Palate
Throughout the tasting, the palate expresses with refinement the nuances of this vintage and its terroir. Despite the high temperatures recorded, the palate remains fresh and balanced. If the merlots bring richness and power, the cabernet sauvignons seduce with their softness and their subtle floral notes. A great vintage in the direct line of the 2016 and 2018, this Château Marquis de Terme 2019 harmoniously combines elegance and fruit brightness with a highly rich aromatic palette.
