Description

The style of a great Haut-Médoc red wine made for ageing

The estate

Located in the Haut-Médoc appellation, at the gates of Pauillac, Château Peyrabon is nestled in a green haven. Owned by Patrick Bernard since 1998, Château Peyrabon has undergone major restructuring and modernisation, both in the vineyard and the cellar. Classified as a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur, Château Peyrabon is a very fine Haut-Médoc reference. It offers wines that are representative of the appellation, elegant and powerful, with a superb ageing potential.

The vineyard

In the commune of Saint-Sauveur Médoc, the Château Peyrabon vineyard spans approximately 37 hectares of vines, with an average age of 28 years, planted on sandy gravel soils resting on a clay subsoil. Clay-limestone soils can be found on 5 hectares of the vineyard. The vineyard is ISO14001-2015 and HVE (High Environmental Value) certified, with phytosanitary protection carried out using reasoned control methods.

The vintage

For this 2019 vintage, the harvest at Château Peyrabon was carried out manually. It began on September 25th for the Merlot and ended on October 11th with the Cabernet.

Vinification

Thermoregulated concrete and stainless steel vat room. Vinification by homogeneous batches according to the mapping of anthocyanin richness. Low temperature fermentation at 24-25°C. Gentle extraction by adapted pumping over/punching down/racking. Average maceration duration of 21 days. Pressing with controlled vertical presses to obtain a very progressive extraction.

Ageing

Traditional ageing in barrels for 14 months (25% new wood).

The blend

Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (31.5%), Cabernet Franc (5%), Petit Verdot (3.5%).
