Description
The intensity and concentration of a Pauillac wine
The estate
2nd Grand Cru Classé in 1855, the Château Pichon Baron belongs to the elite of the Grands Crus of Pauillac, on the left bank of Bordeaux.
The vineyard
A true mosaic of terroirs and superbly located near the Gironde estuary, the vineyard of Château Pichon Baron extends over 73 hectares of vines planted on perfectly drained Médoc gravel soils. The oldest vines of the estate are used in the making of this emblematic Pauillac wine.
The vintage
A dry and warm spring is counterbalanced by a cool and cold summer. The mildness of September ensures a progressive and optimal maturity of the berries until the harvest.
Vinification and aging
Rigorous sorting before and after destemming. Parcel vinification. Alcoholic fermentation started quickly, accompanied by pump-overs adapted to each batch. Maceration from 20 to 25 days. Malolactic fermentation before barreling then aging for 20 months in barrels (80% new and 20% of one wine).
Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (82%)
Merlot (18%).
