Description

The aromatic intensity of a velvety and elegant Moulis red wine

The property
In 2008, the Cuvelier family, already owners of Clos Fourtet, a Premier Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion, acquired the Château Poujeaux. Since then, the beautiful Médoc property has experienced a true renaissance. Led by Mathieu Cuvelier and Christophe Labenne, with vinifications carried out under the watchful eye of consulting oenologist Stéphane Derenoncourt, Château Poujeaux stands out among the finest references of the Moulis appellation.

The vineyard
Located in the northeast of the Moulis appellation, the vineyard of Château Poujeaux extends in one piece. The vines benefit from an exceptional location on the slopes of Grand Poujeaux Graves. This great terroir perfectly benefits the Médoc grape varieties. From this terroir-grape variety match, great wines typical of the Moulis appellation are born, balancing density and elegance.

The vintage
After a mild winter with abundant rainfall, spring was disrupted by numerous stormy and windy episodes. Summer then arrived with scorching temperatures. In September, the return of milder temperatures and some rain allowed for a longer maturation of the berries. At Château Poujeaux, the harvest thus began on September 25 and ended on October 14 with a very satisfactory harvest, both qualitatively and quantitatively. In the cellar, the vinifications were announced under the best auspices thanks to grapes with great richness and beautiful aromatic complexity, heralding the birth of a very great vintage.

Aging
12 months of aging. 33% in new barrels and 67% in barrels of one and two wines.

Blend
Cabernet sauvignon (50%), merlot (45%), petit verdot (5%).

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Poujeaux 2019

Tasting

Color
Deep color with a shimmering garnet red hue tinged with violet reflections.

Nose
Intensely aromatic, the nose exhales beautiful notes of black fruits combined with more floral notes of violet. Aeration reveals more mineral notes of flint and smoky notes reminiscent of a cigar box.

Palate
On the palate, this great Moulis red wine seduces with its supple attack and gradually unfolds a velvety texture with silky tannins. With finesse and elegance, the wine lingers long in the finish on mineral notes and with a beautiful aromatic persistence.
