Description
A Red Wine from Pomerol
The Estate
Located within the Pomerol appellation on the right bank of Bordeaux, the Château Rouget has its origins several centuries ago. While Château Rouget is mentioned as early as 1700 in the land registry archives, its terroir is recognized at the end of the Roman Empire for its quality, making it one of the oldest estates of the appellation. The passion and rigor of the various owners in the management of this vineyard have allowed Château Rouget to be recognized at the end of the 19th century as one of the best crus of the appellation. Château Rouget is the only Bordeaux property owned by a Burgundian family following its purchase in 1992 by the Labruyère family.
The Vineyard
Château Rouget oversees an 18-hectare vineyard within the Pomerol appellation. The vines, approximately 40 years old, are planted on a terroir composed of gravel and clay on the surface. The subsoil is made up of gravelly hills and clay-gravel terraces.
Blend
85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with ripe tannins, but quite round thanks to moderate acidity. The palate is seduced by its aromas of black fruits and spices up to a finish with notes of sandalwood.
