Description
The balance and aromatic richness of a red wine from Saint-Émilion signed Clos des Jacobins
The property
A prestigious reference of the Saint-Émilion appellation, the Clos des Jacobins takes its name in reference to the Benedictine preaching monks who welcomed pilgrims from the paths of St-Jacques de Compostelle. Since 2004, Clos des Jacobins has been owned by Thibaut and Magali Decoster.
The vineyard
Since the 17th century, the 8.3-hectare vineyard of this Grand Cru Classé is in one piece in the heart of the great terroirs of Saint-Émilion. Located at the foot of the slope and benefiting from an excellent southern exposure, the vines, averaging 30 years old, are planted on a very large limestone terroir. The vineyard is managed using sustainable agriculture.
Vinification and ageing
Following manual harvesting in crates, the grapes undergo rigorous sorting. Maceration for 30 days. Punching down and racking precede malolactic fermentation in new barrels. The ageing lasts 18 months in barrels (including 75% new barrels).
Blend
Clos des Jacobins 2020 is a merlot (80%), cabernet franc (18%) and cabernet sauvignon (2%) blend.
