Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Meursault 1er cru "Perrières" 2023 Domaine Albert Grivault
Tasting
Appearance
The wine shows a pale to light yellow hue with a luminous brilliance that reflects both its youth and its density.
Nose
The nose opens with aromas of ripe yellow fruit, apricot and peach, accompanied by notes of warm wax and peach skin. Floral touches of acacia and mimosa blend with hints of hazelnut and fresh almond, while a mineral imprint of gunflint structures the whole.
Palate
On the palate, this wine is medium- to full-bodied, carried by a broad, creamy texture that gains volume toward the finish. Fresh acidity and a saline backbone bring tension and precision, leading to a persistent finish marked by citrus and mineral notes that leave the mouth watering for a long time.
Food and wine pairings
This Meursault 1er cru "Perrières" 2023 is an ideal match for noble fish and shellfish in creamy sauces, such as grilled lobster or langoustines. It also pairs beautifully with white meats and poultry in cream and mushroom sauces, as well as with soft cheeses or characterful hard cooked-curd cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
We recommend serving this wine at around 12°C. Decanting is advised for bottles enjoyed in their youth, to allow the wine to fully reveal its minerality and aromatic complexity.
Meursault 1er cru "Perrières", a limestone terroir at the pinnacle of the Côte de Beaune
The estate
The Domaine Albert Grivault, whose modern history began in 1879 with the acquisition of the Clos des Perrières in Meursault, in Burgundy, is now run by Claire Bardet, who has headed the estate since 2004, working closely with the family team. This estate of around six hectares, handed down through several generations, stands out for its monopole ownership of the Clos des Perrières and its position as the principal owner of the Perrières climat, recognized as one of the finest white terroirs in Meursault.
The vineyard
The Meursault 1er cru "Perrières" comes from approximately 1.55 hectares located in Perrières-Dessous, adjoining the Clos des Perrières. This terroir benefits from a limestone soil rich in minerals, mixed with clay and silt, which promotes both drainage and water retention. The exposure of this slope allows the grapes to reach optimal ripeness while preserving the freshness characteristic of the appellation.
The vintage
The 2023 growing season in the Côte de Beaune was characterized by a generally mild and clement climate, favorable to the ripening of white varieties. These conditions allowed the berries to reach optimal maturity, yielding ripe, concentrated wines while retaining a fine balance of freshness.
Winemaking and ageing
The Meursault 1er cru "Perrières" 2023 is vinified according to the estate's classic principles, with fermentation in oak barrels and ageing using a proportion of new oak adjusted to the cuvée and the vintage, in order to preserve the balance between texture and expression of terroir. Lees stirring is kept to a minimum to preserve the wine's tension and aromatic purity.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
