Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Bourgogne Côte d'Or "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 from Domaine Remi Jobard
Tasting
Appearance
The wine shows a brilliant pale yellow colour with slight green highlights, offering the crystalline clarity characteristic of Meursault Chardonnays.
Nose
The nose reveals a fresh, precise aromatic palette, blending crisp green apple with notes of citrus and white peach. Hints of yellow cherry and pear add a touch of roundness, while a discreet note of fine spice from the ageing completes the bouquet without ever dominating it.
Palate
The attack is crystalline and clean, carried by a dense body and a delicately creamy texture. The wine is rich and concentrated yet retains a surprising freshness and lovely vivacity. A vibrant minerality runs through the palate and extends into a saline, elegant finish of good length.
Food and Wine Pairing
This wine is ideally suited to delicate fish such as turbot or pan-fried pike-perch, as well as shellfish and crustaceans such as scallops, whose saline minerality echoes that of the wine. It is also very much at ease with poultry in a creamy sauce, white meats in a light sauce, or a firm cooked-pressed cheese such as Comté.
Serving and Cellaring
The Bourgogne Côte d'Or "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 is best served between 11 and 13°C in a white wine glass that allows its full aromatic palette to unfold. Its freshness and minerality make it enjoyable in its youth, while offering a harmonious evolution potential over several years.
A Meursault Chardonnay Revealed Under the Bourgogne Côte d'Or Appellation
The Estate
The Domaine Remi Jobard is a family estate based in Meursault, in Burgundy, whose roots go back several generations of winegrowers. Rémi Jobard gradually took over the reins of the estate in the early 1990s, succeeding his father Charles. Under his leadership, the estate embarked on a conversion to certified organic farming. The estate covers approximately 9 hectares, mostly planted with Chardonnay, and enjoys a strong reputation among critics for the precision and purity of its wines.
The Vineyard
The vines behind this cuvée are located in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, in and around Meursault, on limestone soils typical of this Burgundy terroir. Some plots lie in the immediate vicinity of the premier cru Les Charmes, benefiting from a terroir comparable to that of neighbouring crus. The vines, classed as old vines, are farmed according to organic principles, without synthetic inputs, with attentive manual work throughout the growing cycle.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes for the Bourgogne Côte d'Or "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 are hand-harvested and carefully sorted before a gentle, extended pressing to preserve the purity of the juice. Fermentation takes place naturally with indigenous yeasts, after which the wine is aged for an extended period in large oak vessels, mainly Stockinger barrels of around 600 litres, which promote gentle micro-oxygenation without marking the wine excessively with woody aromas. Bottling is carried out without filtration, in keeping with a philosophy of minimal intervention.
Grape Variety
This wine is made from 100% Chardonnay.
