Description
An outstanding Grand Cru Gewurztraminer
The estate
Nestled in Turckheim, in the heart of the Herrenweg vineyard, in the Haut-Rhin, the Zind-Humbrecht estate is among the must-see references of Alsace. The Humbrecht family's wine history dates back to 1620, but it was in 1959, with the union of Léonard Humbrecht and Geneviève Zind, that the estate took its current name. Since 2009, their son Olivier, the first Frenchman to obtain the prestigious title of Master of Wine, has been running it, establishing himself as one of the most talented winemakers in the world.
The vineyard
The Grand Cru Hengst is characterized by marly limestone soils from the Oligocene era. This unique Alsace terroir promotes optimal grape ripening and preserves the acidity of the berries, even in warm years. These geological characteristics give the wines from this Grand Cru a remarkable structure and exceptional aging potential.
Vinification and aging
The Gewurztraminer Grand Cru "Hengst" 1998 was made according to the estate's winemaking principles, favoring low yields and the use of indigenous yeasts to preserve the authentic expression of the terroir.
