The estate
A great Florentine family dedicated to the production of Tuscan wines, the Frescobaldi have been established on this land of history for over 1000 years. Their influence increased considerably during the period of the Republic of Florence, at the time of the development of the city's banking industry. The family notably took part in the great works of art of the time, such as the Santa Trinita Bridge and the Santo Spirito Basilica. Located in the Montalcino area, southwest of the medieval city, the estate Frescobaldi-Tenuta Luce Della Vite produces crus among the greatest wines of Tuscany and the greatest Italian wines.
The vineyard
Frescobaldi - Tenuta Luce della Vite extends over 192 hectares, 55 of which are planted with vines, with an average density of 6,100 vines per hectare. With an altitude ranging from 350 to 420 meters above sea level, the estate has one of the highest vineyards in Tuscany.
The lands, rich in pebbles and sediments but poor in organic matter, combined with a beautiful exposure on the south slope, provide the ideal conditions to produce great Sangiovese with a slow maturation of the bunches. It is in the lower part of the vineyard, on clay soils, that Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are planted.
The vintage
A cool and dry winter slightly delays bud break. Warm and with low rainfall, spring allows for rapid vegetative development, with flowering at the end of May / beginning of June. If these warm and dry conditions persist during the summer, rainy episodes restart the maturities.
Vinification and ageing
Fermentation for 12 days in cement tanks. Skin maceration for 22 days. Malolactic fermentation carried out in barrels. Ageing for 24 months in barrels (80% new, 20% of one wine).
Blend
Merlot
Sangiovese
