Description

Tasting advice for Henschke's Mount Edelstone 2018

Tasting

Colour
Colour with intense ruby notes.

Nose
Spicy, complex and black fruity aromas of blackberry, dark red plum and blueberry, with sage, bay leaf, anise, black pepper, nutmeg or even cedar harmoniously combine in a rich and deep nose.

Palate
A powerful and elegant attack precedes an enveloping palate with fine tannins. As the tasting progresses, aromas of black fruits, liquorice, black pepper and chocolate stretch to a lively and persistent finish.

Keeping

This Australian red wine can be kept until around 2048.

An iconic Southern Australia wine combining freshness and aromatic intensity

The property

Henschke is a renowned family property located in the Barossa wine region of Australia, with a winemaking history dating back over 150 years. Known for its commitment to sustainable and artisanal viticultural practices, the Henschke family is dedicated to producing expressive wines that reflect the unique character of their terroirs. Henry’s Seven pays tribute to a visionary ancestor, Henry Evans, a pioneer of viticulture in this region in the 19th century.

The vineyard

Among the most prestigious cuvées of the estate, Mount Edelstone is an Eden Valley wine produced exclusively from shiraz from a single vineyard, planted in 1912. Located at a high altitude, this terroir gives the wine great freshness and a refined structure. The clay and shale-rich soils allow the old vines to root deeply, thus extracting a unique minerality. The vineyard is cultivated according to sustainable practices, with particular care given to biodiversity and the preservation of soil vitality.

Vinification and ageing

Ageing for 20 months in oak barrels (of which 27% are new) 77% from France and 23% from the United States.

Blend

Shiraz (100%).
