Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Saint-Joseph 2025 from Jean-Michel Gérin
Tasting
Colour
The Saint-Joseph 2025 reveals a red hue, typical of Syrah from the northern Rhône.
Palate
The palate stands out for its varietal purity, carried by a long, beautifully juicy texture, true to the style this estate habitually imparts to its Syrah from Chavanay and Champagne.
Food and Wine Pairing
This wine pairs readily with charcuterie boards, noble offal such as veal kidneys, grilled or rare red meat, as well as slow-cooked lamb confit dishes.
Serving and Cellaring
The Saint-Joseph 2025 from Jean-Michel Gérin is ideally enjoyed at a serving temperature of around 16 °C.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes for this cuvée are hand-harvested, then vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with an extended maceration that allows a measured extraction of tannins and aromas. The Saint-Joseph 2025 is then aged for around fifteen months, mainly in second- or third-use barrels and a few older foudres, in order to preserve the freshness of the fruit and the purity of the Syrah.
Grape Variety
100% Syrah.
A Saint-Joseph from Jean-Michel Gérin, Reflecting the Granite of the Northern Rhône
The Estate
Founded in 1983 by Jean-Michel Gérin following the purchase of a first parcel in Côte-Rôtie, Jean-Michel Gérin has grown in Ampuis, in the heart of the northern Rhône Valley. Descended from a line of winegrowers established for six generations, the family now cultivates nearly twenty hectares spread across Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Saint-Joseph. A pioneer of parcel-by-parcel vinification, the estate is now run by Michaël and Alexis Gérin, sons of the founder, who have converted the entire vineyard to organic farming, certified since the 2023 vintage.
The Vineyard
The grapes for the Saint-Joseph come from Syrah parcels planted on granitic soils in the communes of Chavanay and Champagne, on the right bank of the Rhône. The vines, aged around fifteen to twenty years, are farmed according to organic principles, without chemical fertilisers or weedkillers, which fosters a frank, precise expression of the granitic terroir.
Grape Variety
Syrah (100%).
