Tasting

Color
The color seduces with its frank brightness and its brilliant ruby hue.

Nose
The bouquet opens with intense aromas of raspberry and kirsch, a prelude to a beautiful expression of small red and black fruits.

Palate
The attack is supple, quickly giving way to a tannic structure with a tight grain, which brings depth and structure. This elegant framework supports the fruitiness of the wine and prolongs the tasting with a beautiful persistence.

A risotto with white truffle shavings, a piece of grilled beef or even a quail stuffed with grapes are refined pairings with this Loire red wine.

The property

Since 1513 the family estate Joseph Mellot is an essential reference of Loire wines. Recognized beyond the borders, the wines signed Joseph Mellot, made with integrity and respect for the environment, express with authenticity the diversity and richness of the Sancerre terroirs.

Following the death of her husband, Catherine Corbeau-Mellot has perpetuated since 2005 the quality and tradition of this estate. Joseph Mellot is the only estate to have plots on each appellation of the Centre-Loire. This uniqueness is the strength of the estate whose vineyard extends over an area of about 105 hectares.

Resulting from a selection of the best terroirs and rigorous winemaking, the wines of the Joseph Mellot estate are recognized for their elegance, their accuracy and the singular expression of each cru that composes its vineyard.

The vineyard

L'Original by Joseph Mellot is a Sancerre wine from a 0.5 hectare vineyard. Averaging 30 years old, the vines are planted on a soil composed of limestone marls.

The vintage

The winter was dry and particularly mild. The spring, on the other hand, was rather cool, punctuated by a few episodes of frost. The summer brought high temperatures, marked by several heatwaves. Finally, the autumn stood out for its pleasantly warm weather and beautiful sunshine.

Vinification and aging

Harvested by hand, the grapes undergo fermentation in thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks, accompanied by pump-overs and delestage. Maceration of 16 days. The aging is carried out in terracotta.
