Description

Tasting advice for the cuvée L'Oratoire des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2023

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a yellow hue with lovely green reflections.

Nose
The nose reveals aromas of hawthorn and pear, subtly accompanied by mineral touches of flint and delicate notes of white flowers.

Palate
On the palate, this wine fully expresses its limestone terroir through a mineral and saline structure. The finish, marked by slight bitter notes, gives a uniqueness to the tasting experience.

A Châteauneuf-du-Pape from exceptional terroirs

The property

Named in reference to the oratory located below its first plot, L’Oratoire des Papes has embodied the timeless alliance between pleasure and prestige for nearly 150 years. Revealing the purest and most contemporary expression of the four identity soils of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, these wines are recognised for their elegance well beyond the borders.

The vineyard

One of the main peculiarities of Châteauneuf-du-Pape lies in the richness and diversity of its soils, resulting from three distinct geological periods. There are limestone shards, rolled pebbles, safres and red sandstones. Faithful to this diversity, the estate adopts a respectful approach to the terroir, applying the principles of organic farming in the vineyards and favouring a low-intervention winemaking in the cellar, in order to preserve the authenticity and uniqueness of the terroirs.

Vinification and ageing

Harvested by hand, the grapes, gently pressed in whole bunches using a "champagne" method over 7 to 8 hours, allow for the extraction of highly pure juices. The vinification is carried out 80% in concrete tulip tanks and 20% in 300L French oak barrels. The tanks, thanks to their ovoid shape, maintain the lees in suspension without stirring, which develops the aromas. The ageing follows the same distribution, on total lees, with stirring for the wines in barrels.

Blend

Grenache blanc, roussanne, clairette, bourboulenc
