Description
The refinement and richness of a fine Campania wine
The estate
For more than three centuries, the Mastroberardino family has remained a key player in the world of fine Campania wines. Legend has it that a man named Berardino once acquired the land from someone called Mastro in order to develop the cultivation of vines. The two names entwined to create a family-owned estate that boasts a wealth of passion and expertise. Since then, the love and deep respect for the vines has been passed down from generation to generation. In 1878, Angelo Mastroberardino decided to produce only exceptional quality wines that he intended to take across Italian borders. Since then, the reputation of Mastroberardino wines has grown steadily and today, they are among the finest Italian wine references.
The vineyard
Mastroberardino produces wines from 250 hectares of vines that spread over 17 different estates. Located in the most prestigious regions of Campania in Italy, the vineyards of the estate enjoy exceptional terroirs such as those of Irpinia, Sannio and Avellino. At the foot of Vesuvius and not far from the famous ruins of Pompeii, Mastroberardino has created a superb vineyard of only one hectare, entirely planted with indigenous grape varieties.
The wine
Lacryma Christi Del Vesuvio 2021 by Mastroberardino is made from typical Vesuvian soil: volcanic minerals influence the soil and give the vines a rich aroma. The 15-year-old vineyard, which faces south-east, is located in the heart of the Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio DOC Rosso appellation, a denomination renowned for its rich history and high-quality wines.
Lacryma Christi means "the tears of Christ." An iconic Italian wine from the Naples region, its history lies in legend. According to myth, Lacryma Christi wines stem from tears shed by Christ on Mount Vesuvius.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes were harvested by hand and vinified in steel vats. The wine was aged in bottles for several months before being released on the market.
