Tasting

Nose
Rich and complex, the nose exudes fruity fragrances (plum, blackberry, cherry), floral (dried rose petals) as well as a subtle earthy minerality.

Palate
Full and juicy, the palate reveals over the course of tasting delicious flavours of blackcurrant, blueberry, wild strawberries as well as a velvety texture supported by delicate powdered tannins. Lively and persistent, the finish seduces with its notes of coffee and dark chocolate.

The estate

Symbol of a common dream, Opus One was born from the ambition of two illustrious names in wine, Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild and Robert Mondavi, iconic winemaker of Napa Valley.

The vineyard

Becoming a true legend of Californian wines, Opus One comes from vineyards located in the heart of the Oakville appellation. A true "Grand Cru", Opus One embodies the excellence of two winemaking traditions united with the aim of achieving the quintessence of a unique vintage, of impeccable quality.

The wine

Produced since 1993, Overture is the Second Wine of Opus One. Made with the same rigour as its elder, this cuvée expresses the technical know-how of the estate as well as the identity of the great Californian terroirs through the blend of several vintages.

2021 is the first vintage bottling of this cuvée.

The vintage

A cool and wet start to the cycle slowing down bud burst is counterbalanced by warmer conditions in April-May, promoting progressive and homogeneous growth. Subsequently, low rainfall leads to a reduction in yields before a particularly hot summer.

Vinification and ageing

19-day maceration. Ageing for approximately 19 months in French oak barrels.
