Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for Orma 2022
Tasting
This Italian red wine ideally combines refinement with a powerful structure, suggesting a significant ageing potential.
The richness and aromatic structure of a Tuscan wine
The property
The Orma estate, whose name means "footprint" in Italian, was founded by Antonio Moretti, also owner of the Sicilian estate Tenuta Sette Ponti. After extensive research to identify the best terroir, Antonio Moretti established this estate in the province of Livorno, near Bolgheri, with the ambition to produce exceptional Tuscan wines, expressing with authenticity and excellence the potential of these great Italian vineyards.
The vineyard
Orma is a Tuscan wine from a 7.5-hectare vineyard, 5.5 of which are vines. Facing southwest, the 20-year-old vines on average are planted on deep soils mainly composed of pebbles, clay and a little sand, ideal conditions in a warm climate.
The wine
Orma is the first wine produced by the estate. Produced since 2005, Orma has been recognised beyond borders for its quality, power and balance from its very first vintage.
This 2022 vintage is made from vineyards averaging 24 years old.
The vintage
A mild winter promotes a regular vegetative cycle in the spring, before a hot summer favours the good ripeness of the berries.
Vinification and ageing
Sorting and destemming of the berries before a light pressing. Gravity vatting. Fermentation and maceration of a total duration of more than 20 days, accompanied by 2 to 3 pump-overs per day. Delicate extraction. Racking then malolactic fermentation in barrels before ageing in French oak barrels for about 18 months (20% new barrels, 80% second wines).
Blend
Merlot (50%)
Cabernet sauvignon (30%)
Cabernet franc (20%).
