The property

An emblematic name of the great wines of the northern Rhône Valley, the Maison Paul Jaboulet-Aîné was founded in 1834 in Tain L’Hermitage. The renowned winemaker and vineyard owner Caroline Frey has been running this illustrious house, owned by the Frey family since 2006. Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné oversees a vineyard of 125 hectares of vines, spread over exceptional appellations such as Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage, Cornas, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu or even Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise.

The vineyard

The Grand Pompée by Paul Jaboulet-Aîné is a Saint-Joseph wine, an appellation located on the right bank of the Rhône within the northern Rhône Valley. Planted on steep south/south-east facing terroirs, the 10 to 30 year old vines rest on a light soil of shale and gneiss on a granite base.

The wine

The name of this cuvée refers to the Grand Pompée, who fought with Charlemagne the Moors on the right bank of the Rhône in the IXth century. In his collection of poems "The Legend of the Centuries", Victor Hugo quotes the famous verse "And of the wine of this wine that the Grand Pompée loved".

The vintage

The year 2022 was marked by favorable climatic conditions, allowing for healthy and optimally ripe grapes. This vintage promises balanced white wines, with a beautiful aromatic expression and remarkable freshness.
