The estate
Pioneer, Dr. Osea Perrone acquired land in the Dry Creek Valley region in 1885 and planted vines on this clay-limestone terroir. The first vintage was produced in 1892.
Purchased in 1959 and then renamed in 1962 as "Ridge Vineyards", the estate expanded its vineyard and enlisted Californian winemaker Paul Draper to make the estate an icon among the greatest Californian wines.
Ridge Vineyards oversees an exceptional vineyard run on organic farming, recognised for the quality of its wines vinified in a non-interventionist manner and magnifying the purest expression of the fruit.
The wine
The Chardonnay Estate from Ridge Vineyards is a Californian wine made from vineyards with clay-limestone soils located in the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation.
The vintage
2022 is a year marked by both a severe drought, punctuated by some spring rains, and two heatwaves in late July and late August which resulted in very early harvests.
Vinification and ageing
Whole cluster pressing before fermentation (alcoholic and malolactic) in barrel. Ageing for 15 months in barrels, 15% of which are new (80% American, 20% French) and the balance in barrels of 1 to 4 wines.
