Description
A fruity and smooth Brunello di Montalcino red wine by San Felice
The producer
San Felice is an Italian estate in Tuscany that is constantly looking to evolve its know-how. This estate has succeeded in highlighting its terroir through its distinctive wines for decades.
The vineyard
Brunello Montalcino Campogiovanni 2016 is made from the 65-hectare Campogiovanni vineyard. Located in the south-eastern part of Montalcino, these cordon-pruned vines are grown within the Brunello di Montalcino DOC appellation. Alternating between sandy loam and clay soils, and resting on limestone marl.
The vintage
Despite the rainfall, the particularly mild conditions during the winter favoured an early flowering of about 10 days. The summer months were marked by temperatures above the seasonal average, offset by rainy spells, which avoided any risk of water stress and enabled the grapes to ripen gradually.
The vinification and ageing
After a 20-day maceration, the musts undergo malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged for 36 months in oak barrels from the Slavonian forest. After bottling, the wine is aged for a further 12 months before being released and sold.
The blend
San Felice's 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Campogiovanni is a 100% Sangiovese, the iconic Tuscan and Brunello di Montalcino DOCG appellation grape variety.
