Palate
In the mouth, the wine is characterised by a dense and silky structure, intense minerality, saline notes and precise spicy acidity.

Dishes of white meats (delicately poached veal fillet, accompanied by porcini mushrooms and mashed potatoes), fish or even seafood are refined pairings with this Rheingau white wine.
The richness and freshness of a German riesling
The property
With a rich viticultural heritage of over a millennium of history, Schloss Johannisberg establishes itself as a must-have of great German wines. Founded in the 12th century as a Benedictine monastery, the estate then enters an uncertain period due to the troubled political and economic history that Germany goes through for several centuries. Paradoxically, these difficulties allow Schloss Johannisberg to reborn like a viticultural phoenix in an even more brilliant and prosperous form: the entirety of the lands are planted with riesling, making the estate the first and one of the best enclosed vineyards of this grape variety in the world.
The vineyard
The 2021 Schloss Johannisberg Riesling Goldlack Trocken (dry in German) comes from an extraordinary terroir in the Rheingau region. Wonderfully exposed due south on a 45-degree slope and peaking from 114 meters to 181 meters in altitude, the vines of this cuvée enjoy an ideal position. The forest protects the vineyard from cold winds and the Rhine, which extends like a lake on the foothills of the estate, influences the soils. The 50th northern parallel crosses directly through the lands of Schloss Johannisberg, providing a soil rich in quartz and silt, thus giving the riesling a very beautiful minerality.
Vinification and ageing
Hand harvesting. Maceration for 48 hours and gentle pressing. Fermentation in oak barrels, with wood from the estate itself. Ageing on lees for 24 months in the estate's underground library buried 9 meters underground, before bottling in spring 2024, then bottle ageing until 1st September.
Grape variety
Riesling (100%).
