Tasting

Nose
Stone fruits (yellow plum, mirabelle, white peach), orange blossom, lavender, sage and anise are all fragrances mingling in a rich and harmonious nose.

Palate
With a beautiful vivacity, the palate reveals over the course of the tasting delicious fruity aromas (stone fruits, passion fruits) supported by a rare minerality.

The freshness and complexity of a German riesling signed Schloss Johannisberg

The property

With a rich viticultural heritage of more than a millennium of history, Schloss Johannisberg establishes itself as a must-have of great German wines. Founded in the 12th century as a Benedictine monastery, the estate then enters an uncertain period due to the troubled political and economic history that Germany goes through for several centuries. Paradoxically, these difficulties allow Schloss Johannisberg to reborn like a viticultural phoenix in an even more brilliant and prosperous form: all the lands are planted with riesling, making the estate the first and one of the best enclosed vineyards of this grape variety in the world.

The vineyard

This 2023 Schloss Johannisberg Riesling Orangelack is a Rheingau wine expressing with purity the Kabinett, a category of German wines, dry or sweet, known for their vivacity, their balance and their low alcohol content.

The vintage

Unveiled in 2023, this cuvée comes from the hottest year recorded in Germany. These warm temperatures and a humid climate in September favoured a good maturation of the grapes. The Riesling harvest began on September 12 and ended in less than three weeks, in early October.

Vinification and ageing

Hand-harvested, the grapes undergo a rigorous selection before vinification in stainless steel tanks. Ageing on fine lees in 1200 litre barrels made from the estate's oak.

Blend

Riesling (100%).
