Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Volnay Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 from Vincent Girardin
Tasting
Colour
The colour is ruby, with a medium to deep intensity, reflecting both the finesse of Pinot Noir and the concentration that comes with the age of the vines.
Nose
The nose is elegantly expressed through notes of violet, redcurrant and cherry, enhanced by a touch of spice that adds character to the whole.
Palate
The palate is fresh, supported by fine tannins and a lovely harmony, before concluding on a warm note on the finish.
Food and Wine Pairings
This Volnay pairs ideally with lamb, game and red meats, whose texture and flavours it enhances thanks to its floral and spicy aromas. It also makes a very fine match with cheeses.
Serving and Cellaring
The 2024 Volnay is ideally served at around 14°C.
A Volnay from Domaine Vincent Girardin, Combining Floral Finesse and Precision of Terroir
The Estate
Founded in 1992 by Vincent Girardin in Meursault, in Burgundy, the House first built its reputation on the expression of the terroirs of the Côte de Beaune before being sold in 2012 to the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois, headed by Jean-Pierre Nié. Éric Germain, oenologist and director, now ensures its stylistic continuity, combining estate-grown wines with a high-selection négoce activity across several renowned villages of the region, in both white and red.
The Vineyard
The Pinot Noir vines are planted on soils combining Bathonian limestone and brown silt, offering good drainage and balanced nourishment. The average age of the vineyard dedicated to this cuvée is stated to be 65 years, with the vines trained in the Guyot system and managed using sustainable viticultural practices.
Vinification and Ageing
The 2024 Volnay benefits from a gentle vinification, in keeping with the highly precise approach championed by the House. The ageing, measured in its use of new oak, favours the preservation of the fruit and the aromatic finesse characteristic of the estate's style.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
