Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for Brezza's Sarmassa 2020
Cellaring
Accessible from today, this cuvée fully exhales after 9 to 10 years of cellaring.
The elegance and aromatic brilliance of a great wine from Piedmont
The estate
A historical reference of the Barolo appellation, the Azienda Agricola Brezza Giacomo e Figli has been cultivating vines since 1885. The first vintage of the estate dates back to 1910. Today led by the fourth generation of the Brezza family, the property is located just 500 meters from the center of the village of Barolo, in the province of Coni, in the north of Piedmont. It produces Italian wines of character there, combining finesse, tradition, and identity.
The vineyard
This Piedmont estate extends over 31 hectares, including 20 hectares of vineyards classified in DOCG or DOC. These plots are located on some of the most beautiful terroirs of the appellation, spread between Monforte, Novello, and Alba. Brezza notably owns a plot on the historic Cannubi cru, recognized since 1752, making it the oldest official cru in Italy. The vineyard is certified in organic farming, in a respectful approach to natural balances.
The wine
Produced only in great years, Sarmassa is a Barolo wine from a one-hectare vineyard planted on clay-limestone soil.
Vinification and aging
Traditional vinification with extended maceration to extract all the finesse of the soft tannins.
Grape variety
Nebbiolo
