Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for the 2018 Triptyque from Maison Barons de Rothschild

Tasting

Color
Brilliant gold color, adorned with silver reflections.

Nose
A delicate and captivating nose reveals an elegant chalky minerality, accompanied by aromas of ripe grapefruit, fresh raspberry, and cherry. Upon aeration, spicy and peppery notes blossom.

Palate
The ample attack highlights the generous texture of the Ambonnay terroir and flavors of fresh red fruits. The chardonnays from Avize bring a saline and lemony dimension, enhancing the freshness and verticality of the wine. The structure of the pinot noir from Aÿ offers a long finish, balanced by subtle bitters and notes of orange peel.

Food and wine pairings

Perfect as an aperitif, this champagne enhances shellfish such as raw langoustines or roasted lobster. It also elegantly accompanies a poultry in sauce, like a guinea fowl with morels.

Service

For optimal tasting, serve between 10 and 12°C.

The expression of three great Champagne terroirs through a fresh and complex champagne

The property

Founded in 2005, the Maison de Champagne Barons de Rothschild is a creation of family and heart, resulting from the unprecedented alliance between the three branches (Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Clarke, Château Lafite-Rothschild), aiming to magnify the majestic Champagne terroir which embodies beyond borders the quality and art of living. "To accomplish through great achievements", such has been the ambition for over 250 years of the Rothschild family who, with its viticultural experience in Bordeaux, produces excellent champagnes at the crossroads of know-how and tradition.

Carrying values of excellence, taste, and conviviality, the Maison de Champagne Barons de Rothschild, whose headquarters has been located in Reims since 2007 near illustrious Champagne properties, unveils cuvées whose singular style harmoniously blends finesse, balance, and purity.

The vineyard

Triptyque 2018 is a cuvée made exclusively from grapes from three emblematic grand crus Champagne : the chardonnays from Avize, known for their saline minerality, and the pinot noirs from Ambonnay and Aÿ, which respectively bring texture and structure to the wine. The limestone soils and ideal climate of these terroirs give the wines a unique complexity.

The vintage

The year 2018 was marked by favorable weather conditions. After a rainy winter, the spring, warm and punctuated by storms, accelerated the growth of the vine. The summer, dry and sunny, allowed for optimal maturation of the grapes, offering an exceptional harvest both in quality and quantity.

Vinification and aging

Exclusive use of the first press. The alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place in thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks. After aging for 9 months on fine lees in tanks, the wine benefits from an extended aging of 5 years on lees, before disgorging in June 2024. The dosage of this Extra Brut champagne is minimal, at 5 g/L, guaranteeing a perfect balance.

Blend

Chardonnay (50%)
Pinot noir (50%).
