Origins of a Great Champagne House
19th Century: The Genesis
In 1838, William Deutz and Pierre-Hubert Geldermann, two wine enthusiasts from Germany, founded their House in Aÿ, in the heart of Champagne: the House of Deutz was born! Guided by a quest for excellence, they rigorously selected the finest terroirs to create exceptional cuvées. Visionaries, they quickly developed the international renown of Deutz, establishing themselves in key markets such as Germany, England, the United States, and Russia. Thanks to their ambition, the House became an essential reference among prestige champagnes.
In 1838, William Deutz and Pierre-Hubert Geldermann, two wine enthusiasts from Germany, founded their House in Aÿ, in the heart of Champagne. Driven by excellence, they rigorously selected the finest terroirs to give birth to exceptional cuvées. Aware of the potential of champagne, they quickly developed the international renown of Deutz, conquering key markets such as Germany, England, the United States, and Russia. Thanks to their ambition, the House quickly established itself as an essential reference among prestige champagnes.
1993: The Beginning of a New Era
Remaining in the hands of the descendants of its founders, the House of Deutz joined the Louis Roederer group in 1993. For more than two decades, Fabrice Rosset brilliantly led this House before passing the torch to Marc Hoellinger in 2023. Faithful to the heritage and values of Deutz, he perpetuates the work of his predecessors with the same rigor and quest for excellence.
An Exceptional Vineyard Aÿ, the Cradle of Prestige Located in Aÿ, the House watches over an exceptional terroir. This emblematic village, classified among the Grands Crus of Champagne, is distinguished by its slopes and calcareous soils, offering ideal conditions for exceptional viticulture.
The continental climate of Aÿ plays a crucial role in viticulture. With moderately warm summers and cold winters, it promotes a slow and even ripening of the grapes, preserving the perfect balance between acidity and sugar while developing a rich aromatic complexity.
Deutz, a Demand That Begins in the Vineyard
The secret of Deutz Champagne? It all starts in the vineyard. As Michel Davesne, the brilliant Cellar Master until 2009 and predecessor of Caroline Latrive, affirmed: “You need very beautiful grapes, that's all”. Since the beginnings of the House, the imprint of Pinot Noir is expressed through a suave vinous character, while the finest Chardonnay terroirs of the Côte des Blancs bring remarkable finesse and freshness, the signature of absolute elegance.
Beyond its own vineyard, which unites some of the finest terroirs of Premiers and Grands Crus, Deutz places great importance on the selection of its supplies. The House cultivates close relationships with its partner winegrowers, fostering constant exchanges throughout the year. By favoring exceptional terroirs, particularly in Aÿ, Avize, and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, where soil and microclimate confer unique quality to the grapes, Deutz ensures exceptional raw materials.
From Vine to Glass: The Art of Winemaking
A slow and delicate pressing allows for a fine extraction, preserving the integrity of the aromas. Fermentation then takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, ensuring a perfect balance and pure fruit expression.
In the centuries-old cellars of the House, prolonged aging, well beyond Champagne standards, gives the wines remarkable depth and maturity. For some special cuvées, the use of barrels further enriches their texture and aromatic palette, bringing a beautiful smoothness and unique complexity.
The Deutz Style, Between Richness and Delicacy

Its fine and silky texture makes it an ideal companion for festive moments, especially in large formats.
Deutz Brut Rosé: Between Freshness and Complexity
Deutz Brut Rosé seduces with its freshness and delicate red fruit notes. Its pale pink hue, perfect balance, and refined aromatic profile reveal aromas of freshly picked raspberries and strawberries, enhanced by subtle tart accents. A champagne that is both delicate, intense, and harmonious.
Deutz Cuvée William Deutz: A Tribute to the Origins
The Cuvée William Deutz, named after the founder, is the flagship of the House. This vintage champagne illustrates the unique know-how of the property through a complex aromatic palette, combining delicate floral notes, nuances of perfectly ripe fruits, and a long, generous finish. A true symbol of Deutz's prestige, it also reveals itself in an elegant case.
Amour de Deutz: A Symbol of Excellence
Amour de Deutz, crafted only in great vintages and possessing that unique brilliance that distinguishes great bottles, takes its name from the cherub that inspired the cuvée. The Blanc de Blancs, born from the finest terroirs of the Côte des Blancs, magnifies the purity and complexity of Chardonnay, while the Rosé sublimates the harmonious alliance of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
