Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for the Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart 1998 from Billecart-Salmon

Tasting

Color
Beautiful pale gold color revealing a delicate effervescence.

Nose
On the nose, this champagne develops all its aromatic complexity on notes of pastries, almond and hazelnut biscuit and speculoos. As the aeration progresses, touches of rooibos, truffle and roasted hazelnut are revealed.

Palate
A broad and lively attack precedes a palate with aromas of strawberry, candied citrus zest and mirabelle plum tart. The finish seduces with its persistence and freshness.

A vintage champagne, lively and with a wide aromatic palette

The property

Since its creation in 1818 by the spouses Elisabeth Salmon and Nicolas-François Billecart, the Champagne Billecart-Salmon House has remained independent, preserving for 7 generations the entirety of its know-how and the demand for the quality of its cuvées.

The vineyard

The vineyard of the Billecart-Salmon House extends from the Côte des Blancs to the Montagne de Reims over nearly 100 hectares. The vines are cultivated and cared for in a traditional way in order to approach an authentic fruit and reflect the quality of the Champagne terroir.

The wine

The Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart was created in 1964 in tribute to the founder of the House. This vintage champagne 1998 is made from a rigorous selection of 79% Grand Crus and 21% Premier Crus undergoing a vinification partially carried out in oak barrels (15%).

Vinification and aging

Macération on lees for 10 years. The dosage of this cuvée is 10 years.

Blend

60% Pinot Noir from the Premier and Grand Crus of the Montagne de Reims and the Grande Vallée de la Marne and 40% Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs.
