Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for the Cuvée William Deutz 2014
Tasting
Colour
The colour, a brilliant and luminous gold, is crossed by a fine and delicate effervescence.
Nose
The nose, solar and warm, offers a beautiful aromatic richness of ripe yellow fruits (peach, apricot, mango) and pastry notes (mirabelle tart), enhanced by a touch of acacia honey. Generous and complex, it also reveals aromas of blond tobacco, candied ginger and spices.
Palate
After a clean attack, the wine reveals a beautiful minerality and a persistent length. The velvety texture envelops the palate. This vintage displays a perfect balance between acidity and roundness, with a beautiful volume. The aromas of ripe yellow fruits perceived on the nose are confirmed. The gourmet and delicate finish stretches on notes of candied citrus and chocolate. William Deutz 2014 already offers a lot of pleasure in tasting and promises a beautiful evolution in the cellar.
Keeping
This vintage champagne can wait in the cellar for several decades to reveal its full aromatic palette.
The refinement and indulgence of a vintage champagne signed Deutz
The property
The Deutz Champagne House was founded in 1838 in Aÿ by two Prussians, including William Deutz. One was a wine merchant and the other sold champagne. The two founders took care of bottling, disgorging, dosing and labelling, even before they owned their own champagne and vines.
The vineyard
Throughout the 20th century, the founders' heirs gradually outlined the contours of the vineyard by buying plots in the best terroirs of Champagne. Today, the Deutz House is owned by the famous Roederer family. The great history of Deutz champagnes displays a harmonious style between virtuosity and refinement.
The vintage
After a rainy winter, the flowering took place under ideal conditions thanks to a mild and dry spring. The summer, cool and humid, slowed down the vegetative cycle, but the risk of botrytis was contained by cool temperatures. In September, the return of the sun allowed a rapid maturation of the grapes. The 2014 harvest took place over two weeks under perfect conditions. With impeccable health and a beautiful balance of pinot noirs and chardonnays, 2014 is a promising vintage, offering generous, harmonious wines with great aromatic richness.
