Description
An intergenerational set composed of three remarkable bottles
The estate
Since its creation in 1808, the Drappier Champagne House has a history intimately linked to pinot noir, its grape of choice. It was in the 1930s that against the general opinion of the community, this grape variety was replanted on the estate. History proved the house right, whose Drappier 100% pinot noir cuvée, for the anecdote, was General de Gaulle's preference for his family meals.
Today, the children of André and Micheline Drappier represent the eighth generation to cultivate this exceptional vineyard in organic and biodynamic viticulture, highlighting forgotten grape varieties such as Arbane, Petit Meslier and Blanc Vrai.
The vineyard
The Drappier House vineyard extends south of Reims over 75 hectares of vines, divided between the Côte des Bar and its old vines, the Montagne de Reims and its intense pinot noir as well as the Côte des Blancs and its finely crafted chardonnay. This exceptional Champagne vineyard owes its uniqueness to its limestone-rich terroir combined with maximum sunlight. Some of the Drappier House's plots are also worked with draft horses.
The set
In the Drappier family, family and passion have been intertwined since the creation of the estate in 1808. On the occasion of this heritage, the House presents its "Family History, 3 Generations Edition" set, a collection of three champagnes celebrating the unique creations of each generation.
Carte d’Or : Created in 1952 by Micheline and André Drappier, this cuvée retains its original composition from the 50s, with 80% pinot noir, 15% chardonnay, and 5% pinot meunier, although the dosage has decreased from 10 g/l in 70 years. 5% of the wines age for one year in oak barrels, while the others spend 6 months in stainless steel tanks before refining for two and a half years on slats. Dominated by pinot noir, this champagne offers a rich aromatic palette with notes of white peach, spices, and a powerful palate.
Brut Nature : The Drappier Brut Nature Champagne, created in 1988 by Michel Drappier and finalised in 1998, celebrates purity and natural effervescence. 100% pinot noir, without dosage, unfiltered and with less than 30 mg/l of sulphites, it benefits from a 36-month bottle ageing. This champagne reveals surprising suppleness, with delicate aromas of small red fruits, vine peach and quince, which blossom in a precise, tense and elegant palate.
Clarevallis : The Drappier Clarevallis Champagne, created in 2017 by Charline, Hugo and Antoine Drappier, is the first from the house certified in organic farming. From the 2016 vintage, it reflects the commitment of the young Drappier generations. Composed of 75% pinot noir, 10% pinot meunier, 10% chardonnay and 5% blanc vrai, it is unfiltered and very low in sulphites (20 mg/l). This Extra Brut, dosed at 4 g/l, reveals notes of elderflower and violet, with a beautiful mineral tension and delicate bitters.
