Description
Three great expressions of the Drappier style gathered in a unique box set
The property
Since its creation in 1808, the Champagne Drappier House has a history intimately linked to pinot noir, its grape of choice. It was in the 1930s that against the general opinion of the community, this grape variety was replanted on the estate. History proved the house right, whose Drappier 100% pinot noir cuvée, for the anecdote, was General de Gaulle's preference for his family meals.
Today, the children of André and Micheline Drappier represent the eighth generation to cultivate this exceptional vineyard in organic and biodynamic viticulture, highlighting forgotten grape varieties such as Arbane, Petit Meslier, and Blanc Vrai.
The vineyard
The Drappier House vineyard extends south of Reims over 75 hectares of vines, divided between the Côte des Bar and its old vines, the Montagne de Reims and its intense pinot noir as well as the Côte des Blancs and its finely crafted chardonnay. This exceptional Champagne vineyard owes its uniqueness to its limestone-rich terroir combined with maximum sunshine. Some of the Drappier House's plots are also worked with draft horses.
The box set
This Drappier Trio Nature Box Set brings together three essential cuvées from the House:
Clarevallis : a tribute to the abbey founded in 1115 by Saint Bernard, this champagne is made from the grapes of the Urville slope, grown organically on a Kimmeridgian limestone terroir. The label, designed by Charline Drappier, is inspired by the Great Bible of Clairvaux from the 12th century. This blend of pinot noir (75%), pinot meunier (10%), chardonnay (10%) and pinot blanc (5%) seduces with its gray gold color, fine foam, a mineral nose with floral notes and a balanced and tense palate.
Brut Nature Rosé : This cuvée is made by bleeding after 3 days of maceration, in a concern for maximum preservation of its aromatic expression. 100% pinot noir, this champagne reveals on the nose aromas of strawberry, raspberry and delicate notes of rose petal. On the palate, red fruits dominate, enhanced by citrus and a hint of white pepper.
Trop m’en Faut : Celebrating the Fromenteau, an old Champagne grape variety (pinot gris), once common in the Aube, this rare single-varietal, grown organically on the Kimmeridgian limestone soil of Urville, offers a rich, silky and ample wine, with aromas of forgotten fruits. Made from the 2019 and 2020 harvests, this non-dosed Brut Nature aged 3 years on slats and 8 months in local oak half-muids, it has a pale gold color and reveals floral notes, of mirabelle plum and apricot.
