Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for the Grand Millésime 2016 from Champagne Gosset

Tasting

Colour
The pale yellow hue reveals a fine and elegant effervescence.

Nose
The nose opens up with aromas of great freshness, with notes of fennel, star anise and star anise, highlighted by a menthol touch. As the wine warms up, more indulgent accents appear, evoking poached pear, nougat and almond.

Palate
On the palate, the attack is elegant, revealing a bouquet of mirabelle plum, rhubarb and reinette apple. The mid-palate is dense, with a chiselled, fresh and tangy finish. Fine bitters, a signature of grand crus, add to the elegance of this wine.

An exceptional, elegant and complex champagne

The property

Heritage of a traditional know-how, the Champagne Gosset House perpetuates its style through the centuries. The Gosset family has been established in Aÿ, Grand Cru of Champagne since the 16th century. For 16 generations, Maison Gosset has perpetuated the excellence of which the guardian is today Odilon de Varine, cellar master and deputy general manager of the house. The champagnes of the house are recognisable notably by the shape of their bottle, a heritage of the "antique" flasks used in the 18th century.

The vineyard

Maison Gosset owns plots on the Grands and Premiers Crus of Champagne from the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims. The some 140 hectares of vineyards are planted on the crus of Cumières, Courmas, Chamery, Avenay, Vertus, Villers-Marmery, Grauves, Avize Trépail or even Cuis.

Vinification and ageing

This champagne has benefited from a long ageing on lees before its disgorging. After this step, the bottles return to the cellar for an additional rest of at least 6 months. The dosage is 4 g/l.

Blend

Chardonnay (61%)
Pinot noir (39%)
