Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for the Clos d'Ambonnay 1998 from Maison Krug

Tasting

Color
A beautiful golden color with coppery reflections, revealing a beautiful maturity.

Nose
The nose opens with notes of milk caramel, barley sugar, toasted bread, as well as fragrances of blackcurrant, red fruit jam and fruit jelly.

Palate
The palate reveals flavors of wild fruits, tarte tatin, brioche, redcurrant and a touch of licorice. The surprising intensity of the wine unfolds in a persistent finish.

Food and wine pairings

Truffles, poultry, noble fish (lobster and langoustine), shavings of old parmesan, scrambled eggs with truffle, Pata negra de Bellota or even a country bread toasted garnished with truffles and extra virgin olive oil are delicate pairings with this cuvée.

A vintage Blanc de Noirs champagne imbued with complexity and balance

The property

The Champagne Krug House was founded in 1843 by Joseph Krug, a visionary and passionate man. It holds a unique library in the world consisting of more than 150 reserve wines, some of which are over 15 years old.

The vineyard

With more than 250 different plots including the prestigious Clos du Mesnil and the Clos d’Ambonnay, Maison Krug holds an exceptional vine heritage in Champagne.

The wine

Of great rarity, this champagne exalts the expression of a single plot of pinot noir of 0.68 hectare called the Clos d’Ambonnay and comes from a single year. The first edition of this rare and prestigious champagne was born following the 1995 harvest. 1998 is the third vintage of this exceptional bottle.

The grape variety

This vintage 1998 champagne is a 100% pinot noir.
