Description
A great vintage champagne combining freshness with beautiful complexity
The estate
The Champagne Moët & Chandon House was founded in 1743 by Claude Moët, a visionary wine merchant, who quickly made it a reference among European courts. A few years later his grandson, Jean-Rémy Moët, developed the aura of the house internationally.
Jean-Rémy Moët notably created the emblematic cuvée of the house, the Moët Imperial, in honour of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, who visited the estate several times and is said to have invented with his troops the gesture of sabring Moët & Chandon champagne bottles to celebrate a victory.
Owned by the LVMH group since 1987, the house produces, from a rigorous selection of Champagne terroirs, singular cuvées recognised beyond borders for their quality and seductive personality.
The wine
Each year, the Grand Vintage is a free and personal interpretation of the year by the Cellar Master of Moët & Chandon. This 2015 vintage is the 76th vintage made only in great years in Champagne. This exceptional cuvée benefits from a maturation time in cellars of 6 years as well as a minimum ageing of 6 months after disgorging. This Brut champagne is dosed at 5g/litre.
Blend
Pinot noir (44%)
Chardonnay (32%)
Pinot meunier (24%).
Characteristics and tasting tips of the Grand Vintage 2015 from Moët & Chandon
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful golden hue. The effervescence is fine and persistent.
Nose
The nose opens up to delicious bakery notes (bread crumb, fresh brioche, almond paste). As the wine breathes, the bouquet exhales floral (elderflower, jasmine) and fruity (white peach, watermelon) fragrances.
Palate
Ample and supple, the palate is marked by floral, aniseed and menthol flavours that provide freshness and lightness throughout the tasting. Persistent, the finish seduces with its sweet bitterness reminiscent of fresh almond notes.
