Description
A balanced and delicate Pauillac wine
The estate
The Château Croizet-Bages, a classified growth of Pauillac, was born in the 18th century. Thanks to its prestige, the Château distinguished itself during universal exhibitions in the 19th century. In 1942, the château was bought by a merchant named Paul Quié, whose family still heads this prestigious property.
The vineyard
The 27 hectares of vineyard of this reference from the left bank of Bordeaux are located on the Bages plateau. The vines, averaging 35 years old, are planted on soils composed of deep gravel and gravelly sands, characteristic of the Pauillac appellation.
The vintage
The 2016 vintage is marked by extreme weather conditions. There wasn't really a spring and the weather was wet and cool until the beginning of summer. This was followed by heat and drought in the vineyard, putting young vines under water stress. On the other hand, well-rooted vines reacted extremely well. The harvest went perfectly under the sun, from September 23 to October 14.
Vinification and ageing
Vinification in stainless steel tanks. Parcel selection. Thermo-regulated fermentation from 26 to 28°C. Daily pumping over. Malolactic fermentation in barrels and tanks. Ageing for 12 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new.
Blend
Cabernet sauvignon (55%)
Merlot (41%)
Cabernet franc (4%).
Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Croizet-Bages 2016
This vintage stands out for both its power and its softness, with well-ripened tannins. This balanced wine closely resembles the 2005 vintage of the estate.
