Description
A structured and aromatic red wine from Pomerol
The estate
Owned by the Raynaud-Lebreton family and with origins dating back to 1477, the Château La Fleur de Gay is located on the medieval road from Saint-Émilion to Guitres. The estate is located on what was the historic village of Pomerol, the hamlet of Pignon, north of the Pomerol appellation.
The vineyard
The vineyard of Château La Fleur de Gay extends over 2 hectares of vines and benefits from a very large typical Pomerol terroir. The vines are located on 3 plots of the high terrace of the appellation. The vines are planted on plots of pure Lafleur clay (4%), on Günzian gravel plots resting on Gay clay (57%) and high granulometry gravel plots on Groupey clay (39%).
The vintage
2020 is a vintage marked by significant contrasts (up to 26°C daily summer thermal amplitude) and demanding weather with almost 2 months without rain. The typology of the great clay terroirs of the Pomerol appellation has transformed these constraints into assets for the vineyard. The grapes thus reveal a beautiful complexity and a rich aromatic palette.
Vinification and aging
Manual harvest. Maceration of 34 to 35 days. Gentle extractions. The malolactic fermentation is partially carried out in barrels. The aging is carried out in barrels (70% new, 30% of one wine) in order to develop the complexity and the fruity aromatic palette of this great vintage.
Blend
Château La Fleur de Gay 2020 is a 100% merlot.
