Description
The richness of an exceptional Margaux wine
The property
The Château Palmer is a true star of the Margaux appellation, on the left bank of the Bordeaux region. With beginnings in biodynamics initiated in 2009, Château Palmer made the choice to convert the entire vineyard from 2014. After building its legend on vintages that have become mythical, Château Palmer continues to write its history under the direction of the talented Thomas Duroux.
The vineyard
Benefiting from an exceptional Margaux terroir, located in the immediate vicinity of the Gironde estuary, Château Palmer has an unusual grape variety in Médoc, giving pride of place to merlot, which is alongside cabernet sauvignon associated with petit verdot.
The vintage
The wet and cool conditions at the beginning of spring lead to late bud break. The stormy episode accompanied by hail on May 11 affects the vineyard without having any impact on the qualitative potential of the harvest. The dry and sunny conditions from June onwards favor good flowering. The sunshine and summer mildness, without storms or heat peaks, have allowed the qualitative potential of the vineyard to develop and ensure a beautiful veraison. The water deficit, however, impacts certain terroirs, increasing the concentration of the berries as well as their aromatic potential. September and October have combined ideal conditions for the good maturation of the berries. The grapes harvested from September 23 are ripe, healthy, tasty and concentrated. Exceptional in elegance, precision and finesse, this Château Palmer 2009 enters the legend of the greatest vintages signed by the property.
Vinification and aging
Due to the high temperatures, the grapes transported to the cellars are cooled, in order to subsequently control the fermentation temperatures. The extreme attention paid to the selection of batches, the precision of vinifications and the perfect mastery of blends have allowed each plot to reveal all the authenticity of the exceptional terroir that gave birth to them.
Blend
Merlot (52%), cabernet sauvignon (41%) and petit verdot (7%).
