A seductive red wine from Saint-Julien with supple tannins
According to some tales, Château Talbot owes its name to Constable Talbot, a well-known English warrior who lost the Battle of Castillon in 1453. This 4ème Cru Classé en 1855 benefits from a vineyard of 102 hectares located in the Saint-Julien appellation. Aged 51 years on average, the vineyards enjoy a terroir made of gravel typical of the Médoc. The wine is matured in barrels, with a proportion of 50% of new barrels. The blend of the 2003 vintage is composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc.
At tasting, the Château Talbot 2003 reveals an extremely fine and complex bouquet, releasing aromas of candied fruits in harmony with the smoky and vanilla fragrances of the oak barrels (merrains). The attack on palate is velvety and extremely long, offering tasty touches of fruit. The tannins are dense, melted and harmonious. An attractive wine, rich in tannins of great flexibility with a very good ageing potential.
