A fresh and delicate riesling from Southern Australia
The estate
The Grosset estate, founded in 1981 by Jeffrey Grosset, is located in the Clare Valley, one of Australia's most renowned wine regions. Grosset is a pioneer in great white wines based on riesling, known for their purity and precision. Now certified organic, the estate spans 22 hectares, with three plots dedicated to riesling, including the famous Polish Hill, as well as a plot of cabernet sauvignon.
The vineyard
The Polish Hill vineyard, located north of Mount Horrocks, covers 8 hectares. This exceptional Clare Valley terroir consists of loamy and slate soils on a hard rock substrate. These poor and well-drained soils naturally limit yields, allowing the grapes to develop great concentration. The vines, planted in 1996, benefit from a continental climate, with hot summers and cool nights, perfect for growing riesling.
The vintage
The year 2022 provided ideal conditions, without major water stress, allowing for homogeneous and balanced ripening of the grapes. This vintage is marked by great freshness and a beautiful tension, characteristic of Polish Hill riesling.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are hand-picked, then destemmed and gently pressed. A 5-day pre-fermentation maceration precedes fermentation in stainless steel tanks, ensuring maximum aromatic purity. The wine is then aged for 2 months on fine lees, without fining and with light filtration, to preserve its finesse.
Blend
This wine is made exclusively from riesling, from a blend of Australian and German clones, selected for their ability to fully express this unique terroir.
