A Montagny Village True to the Finesse of the Côte Chalonnaise
The Estate
Founded in 1880 in Beaune, in Burgundy, by Joseph Drouhin, Maison Joseph Drouhin is today run by the fourth generation of the family, represented by Véronique, Philippe, Laurent and Jean-Nicolas Drouhin. Its estate spans all of Burgundy's great wine regions, from Chablis to the Mâconnais. The House has long been committed to organic and biodynamic viticulture, with the philosophy of providing natural answers to the natural challenges of the vine.
The Vineyard
Montagny Village comes from the communes of Montagny, Buxy, Saint-Vallerin and Jully-lès-Buxy, in the southernmost part of the Côte Chalonnaise. The vines are planted on horseshoe-shaped slopes offering a variety of exposures, on clay-limestone soils typical of this Burgundy appellation.
The Vintage
The 2024 vintage presented demanding weather conditions for the harvest. Sunshine lasting until mid-September nevertheless allowed a fine balance of ripeness to be achieved, requiring meticulous sorting of the grapes to preserve the quality of the harvest.
Vinification and Ageing
The grapes for the Montagny Village 2024 are hand-harvested into perforated crates, then slowly pressed in a pneumatic press. The press juice is separated from the free-run juice, before a light settling. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, as well as ageing, take place in French oak barrels from high forest trees, with a limited proportion of new oak.
Grape Variety
This wine is made from Chardonnay.
