Description
The balance and vivacity of a Marche white wine
The estate
Located between the Marche and Abruzzo regions, Umani Ronchi is now one of Italy's 18 largest wine-producing families. The venture began near Cupramontana, the historic heart of Verdicchio Classico. Founded in the 1950s by Gino Umani Ronchi, the estate initially took the form of a small, picturesque farmhouse. But in the 1970s, Massimo Bernetti took over the estate and gave it a new dimension. As well as increasing the size of the vineyard, which gradually grew to over 210 hectares, Massimo Bernetti was also quick to take his wines abroad. Today, this Italian jewel thrives under the watchful eye of Massimo's son, Michele Bernetti, who continues to make his legacy shine, with deep respect for his terroir and the people around him.
The wine
The name of this wine refers to the Latin Plenum, which suggests fullness, complexity and structure, all qualities that are characteristic of this great Italian wine.
The vineyard
Plenio Riserva from Umani Ronchi is a Marche wine produced from a 9-hectare vineyard. Located in the heart of Cupramontana, at an altitude of over 350 metres, this natural setting boasts very deep clay soil, ideal for producing great wines.
The vintage
The 2021 vintage bears witness to the resilience of the vines in the face of a hot, dry climate. Despite a mild winter and cool spring, the summer was marked by intense heat. The management of water resources and soil fertility played a decisive role.
Winemaking and ageing
After gentle pressing, the must is cooled and then decanted. Fermentation takes place partly in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats (60%) and the rest in oak barrels (40%). Part of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for 12 months and then aged in bottle for 6 months.
