Characteristics and tasting advice for the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon cuvée from Vasse Felix
Tasting
Colour
The wine reveals a deep ruby hue with purple reflections.
Nose
A seductive bouquet of vibrant woodland fruits, blackberry, black truffle, sea breeze and granite stone, delicately evolving towards notes of cranberry and rose petal.
Palate
From the juicy and intense attack, fine and silky tannins subtly reveal themselves. The texture, full-bodied and structured, remains elegantly taut, leading to a tasty and indulgent finish.

The estate
Founded in 1967 by Dr. Thomas Cullity, the pioneering Margaret River estate, Vasse Felix, was taken over in 1987 by the Holmes family who developed the vineyard to cover 133 hectares. With a meticulous selection of each plot for an authentic expression of the terroir, and under the direction of renowned winemaker Virginia Willcox, the estate produces wines appreciated for their finesse, richness and great ageing potential.
The vineyard
Margaret River benefits from Mediterranean and oceanic climatic influences, being located on a peninsula surrounded by the ocean. The Vasse Felix vineyard extends over different sectors, offering a diversity of meso-climates and exposures. The historical heart, with the oldest vines, is in Wilyabrup, while the main plots are located to the north in Carbunup and to the south in Karridale.
Vinification and ageing
Fermentation is carried out entirely naturally, using indigenous yeasts and is carried out with whole berries. This process is carried out in various types of vats, with a maceration period on skins that varies between 13 and 30 days. For the maturation phase, the wine rests for 18 months in French oak barrels, of which 33% are new and 67% are between one and four years old.
Blend
Cabernet sauvignon (85%)
Malbec (13%)
Petit verdot (1%)
Merlot (1%)
